Midsemester

Midsemester break has arrived.  For this "break", the students have Monday off of school, marking halfway through the semester.  Most students (different semesters) are out and about, beaching it; taking Catamaran cruises to snorkel, booze, and head to Nevis; island hopping to Puerto Rico, St. Marteen, Antigua; shark dives; late nights on the strip, etc.  What is Eric doing, you might ask?  STUDYING.  He had his Small Animal Medicine midterm this past Friday.  This week, he has his Surgery and Large Animal Medicine midterms, plus his first surgery on a lamb.  The following week, he and his surgery partner will be  the anesthesia team for the other two who will perform anesthesia on the lamb they will be cutting open.  REALLY cool if you ask me.  Eric has finally made it to some "big kid" vet school kinda stuff (that sounded really educated, I know).   Blaine and I are trying to stay busy while he studies...pool date with other moms this morning, dinner and movie night with other kiddos this eve.  What will tomorrow hold??? The world is our oyster.  Happy weekend everyone.

MBB's visit

Here are just a few of over 500 pics from Mary Beth's 7 day vacation with us.  We hit the beach and pool every day she was here.  We had great visits, awesome photo shoots, missing hermit crabs, elmo videos with Blaine, lazy mornings on the porch with a cup of Joe, Ting with many stings, & more.  We miss her dearly, but will cherish the memories made.  Love you MBB.

The countdown for Uncle Barry's arrival to the island has now begun.  10 days!

6 months post delivery

Blaine turned 6 months old today.  Like everyone says, 'time sure does fly', and I would have to agree.  BUT, as this 'island time' flies, we are soaking up every minute that we get to spend with Blaine, and look forward to watching her grow and change each and every day.  It is amazing how much she has changed in the last week.  She loves to be positioned in long sitting (legs extended, sitting on her bottom) while engaging in infant exploration of anything in sight.  Though she cannot sit unsupported, she loves to be seated erect with a little help from me or her Daddy to see the world from our point of view.
Though she shows no signs of active crawling at the moment, Blaine can scoot around in a 360 directional pattern while prone, fully extend her elbows while arching her upper thorax, and hip hikes when flat on her tummy in preparation for the quadruped position, which will eventually lead to creeping/crawling.  hahaha...I miss working as an OT...can you tell?
She has eaten pureed pumpkin (with a little cinnamon and butter...recommended by two local ladies..and I usually steal a bite or two), avocado, sweet potato, peas, carrots, apples, pears and bananas thus far.  We are having fun making all of these baby delicacies, as we have yet to buy baby food in a jar (and not planning on it).
Blaine can transfer toys from one hand to the other, grab her feet and pull them to her mouth, and can giggle like the pillsbury doughboy when I perform ridiculous facial expressions (like chubby face) or various renditions of Peek-A-Boo.
Blaine is in the water usually every day, whether it's in our pool, a friend's pool, the marriott pool, the Atlantic, or the Caribbean Sea (when she fusses, I tell her, "There is no crying in St. Kitts!"...poor baby has it rough).  Her arms and legs are beginning to take on a lightly toasted almond complexion, yet her pleasantly plump crevices continue to display a lighter shade of eggshell (I have been reading too much, I suppose).  And not to worry grandparents, I apply sunscreen copiously to every inch of exposed epidermis.
Needless to say, our life is grand, we are loving every minute of it, and Blaine is our pride and joy.  Here are a few portraits to capture the joyful spirit of our 6 month old gem (or tooter-scoot, as Eric so frequently refers to her as).

(Most photos, courtesy of Mary Beth Bess photography...next blog will be about her 7 day vacation and my 7 day stay-cation.)  Stay tuned.

my cousin is a poet...did you not know it?

My cousin and BFF Mary Beth will be visiting the Metteauer Kittitian household in 3 days! We are sooo excited to have her here for a week. Today, my email inbox was graced with a lovely poem written by her.

St. Kitts May 2010

love her!

Island Fever

There once was a girl named Kori. She has a once in lifetime story.
An island called St. Kitts she did stay.
While her husband was schooling she did play.

She then had a baby named Blaine.
And an island chic was her call to fame.
What a way to start off a young life;
Stress free, no worries or strife!

Then comes cousin and Be eff eff
Her real name happens to be Mary Beth.
For trip number two she did plan,
It was almost more than she could stand!
Ting with a Sting she did think... maybe something she could drink!

The beach, the sand, the smell...
I'm on my way,oh hell...yeah!
