New News!

Well folks, if you haven't heard our glorious news yet, we are officially letting the cat out of the bag...it's not official anymore these days until it is on the world-wide web!

WE ARE HAVING A BABY!!!

God has blessed the two of us in so many ways and continues to amaze us with His love and facilitation of endless opportunities. Eric and I are so excited that we are able to experience our first pregnancy and child at this chapter in our lives.

At this point, you might be asking yourself, so will this baby be a Kittitian rather than a US citizen?!? Let me answer this REALLY quick! I will definitely be flying home at the beginning of my third trimester and deliver in the great state of Texas. Some spouses have opted to have their babies here on the island. When this happens, they are still US residents but also have the benefits of dual citizenship. Because health care here on the island is around 15-20 years behind the US, I am taking no chances! They don't even administer epidurals here, so of course it was never an option! :) My due date as of now is January 3, 2010, so Eric will be home from Kitts on Christmas break. (Let's just hope our little nugget doesn't decide to arrive two weeks early).

I have started my prenatal care here on the island, and will follow up with my OB once I home in August on break. Eric and I were able to see the heartbeat our first visit to the doctor! What a wonderful moment to finally share with one another, after being in semi-denial up until this point! :)

Once I have the baby, and he/she is cleared with the pediatrician (healthy, vaccinated, etc., etc.) to leave the country, I will fly back to St. Kitts to rejoin our little family.

Max is sooo excited that he wanted to tell everyone for himself!

We are so happy and elated with our news, we thought it was time to share it with the world. Life as we know it is about to change...and adapting to change is what keeps our lives exciting and fulfilled.

Piano Bar & Cricket

Hello everyone.

We are almost nearing the mid-semester break of 3rd, and Eric is thick into his midterms. He took his Bacteriology midterm Friday, and has Pharmacology midterm Monday, Pathology Thursday, and Virology Friday. Everyone please say a little prayer for him this week, as he only has a midterm and final each class. EEEK!

Not much has been going on here in St. Kitts for us. Just school and living. A few weeks back, some of the spouses celebrated Lindsay's birthday at the Piano Bar, while our significant others were studying, of course.

This past weekend I went to my first Cricket game with my friend Jessie. The West Indies team was playing South Africa. Cricket originated in Britain, and is a very popular sport amongst the West Indian Caribbean Islands. Cricket is regulated not by "rules" or "regulations", but "Laws of Cricket". I still do not understand all the Laws of this game, as there are many, and this sport is nothing like that of All-American baseball. Needless to say, it was an interesting game and fun experience. The teams move at a leisurely pace in the outfield and dress very comfortable. I have inserted a few pictures below of the Cricket match at Warner Stadium.

We would like to say HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to our Dads, Gary & Mike, and all the other great Dads out there! Until next time...take it easy Mohn!

Balast Bay, St. Kitts

This past Monday, while the hubby was in class, I went on a snorkeling adventure with a few other vet school spouses. The location was Balast Bay, on the southern peninsula of the island. Luckily I brought along our underwater camera, for I saw my first and then second sea turtle while snorkeling. We also saw some amazing reef fish, a lobster, and offensive sea urchins/coral.

Island Hopping to the Caymans

Hello from down under! Eric is finishing up his fourth week of third semester already! To catch you up on our recent adventures, let's back up to last Thursday. Eric and I flew to Miami on this day, in route to the Grand Cayman Island, for his sister's wedding. Once in Miami, we checked into our hotel, and then high-tailed it to the nearest shopping mall. There, we shopped and took in all the sweet sights and sounds of America!... and of course we had to meander through Bass Pro Shop. We then had an exceptional, All-American meal at Buffalo Wild Wings.

On Friday, we flew to the Cayman Islands. That night we met up with around 20 family and friends for a delicious meal. On Saturday, Eric and I had a chance to swim with the dolphins. We got a few pictures beforehand, but were unable to take our camera in the water (they said it would scare the dolphins, but we know that they just wanted us to buy their outrageously priced professional photos, and we did! But I don't have a scanner with us to post them on the blog). Swimming with the dolphins was really neat. After that, we headed over to the sea turtle farm. We couldn't believe how many sea turtles they had crammed in to all the different tanks. See pics below!

We then headed back to the hotel to hang out at the beach with Eric's family. The wedding was Saturday evening, and it was beautiful! They got married right on the beach. Unfortunately, I do not have any pictures to post from the wedding due to our 2nd camera getting thrown in the pool that night (along with Eric).

Sunday we went on a reef fishing trip. All together the whole crew caught around 20 reef fish. These spanned from squirrel fish, to yellow tails, to trout, etc. The water there is so clear! We were cruising over 30 ft. deep water, and could see star fish, stingrays, coral...straight to the bottom! Eric and I had to leave Sunday afternoon, for another overnight stay in Miami. Whew that was a quick trip, but we had so much fun. And, it was good to get off of the rock for a few days!

I am sad that I didn't get to see my friend, Jennifer Leggett, who is currently living on The Grand Cayman Island. We had a little bit of a phone number/name miscommunication, so unfortunately I could not get in touch with her while we were there. She did inform me later that she did ride in a taxi van with my in-laws. Funny how things work out!

Also, Hailey, Chelby & Raeni, if you are reading this, I am sorry I could not post the picture of us on the beach after the wedding. It is on Pam's camera, and we didn't get a chance to upload her photos onto our computer!

Now that we are back to our island, Eric is back to the grind with school! I know everyone back home is getting ready for summer! We hope that our friends and families have a great summer and are safe in their travels. We will see you all in Texas, in August! Yee Haw.
